Domestic Failure

Domestic failure is an ongoing project about memory and loss; sweetness; and the complicated nature of our relationships. I started the project before the covid pandemic, but it gained poignancy and a deeper relevance as I spent more time in solitude and away from loved ones. Flowers bloom and gracefully fade, mirrors gather dust, silence becomes loud, inner life pushes outward. In observing my surroundings, whether in the studio or exploring the quiet outside, I began to think of creating pictures in the same I way I think about writing. Individual words become a phrase, layers of phrases build a poem, a poem is an outward expression of the interior. The principle follows with a picture. A picture is a window to the interior and an opening to the outer world.
