Yonkers is an old city that can seem out of time, displaced, and somewhat unknowable. Hidden Yonkers is an exploration of my adopted home. Many of the pictures in this series began as an elegy, a conversation about the ephemeral nature of our existence. I also wanted to get to the nature of the city, to capture it breathing as a reflection of the unexpected power of place. In the time of retreat caused by coronavirus, the quiet allowed me to see things in a new way. Hopefully, these images, in their loud silence, tell my story and bring the viewer closer to me, but also serve as a visual record of things that reveal themselves only once.
